You Need Sleep. PERIOD.

Go the f*@k to sleep! (in my best Samuel L Jackson voice) Ok, well hear me out at least...

Every day I talk with people who are working on being the best version of themselves. They track their food, go to the gym and build lives they love. And I am overwhelmed by the number of them that, when asked about their sleep tell me:

  • it’s awful

  • they need more

  • they just cant get more sleep into their day.

MY FAVORITE IS:

“I just don’t require more than 5 or 6 hours”. eyeroll...

Stop the madness! Being healthy and lean and strong REQUIRES sleep. Being happy and emotionally resilient REQUIRES sleep. Whoever started the “sleep when you’re dead” rumor is probably on a fast track to being just that.

While there are many different conditions that people may have, and there are of course exceptions to the rule, the majority of human beings require 7-9 hours of sleep per day.

Humans wanting to do epic shit without sleeping is like planning to go on a road trip with no gas. Want to be healthy? Fit? Lean? Check your sleep hygiene and then improve it.

Here are a few of the reasons sleep is so damn critical and why I talk about it so much to my clients and YOU:

  • It can improve concentration and productivity

  • You tend to eat fewer calories

  • Maximize athletic performance

  • Improved mood

  • Helps lessen anxiety and depression

Need help with your sleep hygiene? Put into action a few of these best practices:

  • Go to bed at the same time every night

  • Have a wind-down routine

  • Keep your room cool and dark

  • Make your bed comfortable!

  • Keep caffeine consumption to earlier in the day

  • Avoid alcohol before bed

  • Stop looking at devices/screens 30-60 minutes before bed

  • Slow liquid consumption at the end of the day (less getting up to pee)

  • Stop working/thinking about work 30-60 minutes before bed
