It’s funny to think I have gained more than I have lost in the last 5 years.
I had just had my second daughter and realized that me being fat with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes was going to stop me from being the mom I wanted to be. I tried aqua fit and then moved on to Zumba and then someone showed me a barbell. I was hooked and signed up at a Crossfit gym immediately. At 110 kilos (242 lbs), I was never going to excel at burpees or muscle ups, but what I did excel at was the heavy lifting…so why not do more of that? The more I did, the more regular I became with my training the better I felt. I made new friends, friends who walked with me instead of going for wine and friends who cheered my healthier choices on.
In these past few years I have lost about 25 kilos (55 lbs), been the M1 84 kg British champion 4 times and placed 3rd at last years worlds. I have lost weight but gained confidence, health, habits and a supportive community who will push me on to any of the goals I set for myself. I look better, feel better and best of all am now not considered to be a diabetic anymore. Looking back is good but looking forward is even better.
Thanks Audy for all of your amazing support in and out of competition mode!

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the 160s... I have been hitting CrossFit hard this last year, but really wasn’t focusing on my nutrition until late February. What a difference the change has made. It’s not really about the pounds that’s been important this time, but the number of strict pull-ups, handstand push-ups, burpees, and double-unders I can now do. I feel great, I'm stronger, and I feel a little less self conscious at the hot springs. :) I'm excited to go into maintenance mode for a bit and continue to build my strength and healthy eating habits.
The best part about this is I now have the most healthy relationship with food that I’ve had my entire life. A huge shout out to Audy at 406 BarBelle for really helping on this nutrition journey!

I’ve been working with Coach Audy for a little over two years. I look forward to my weekly check-ins with her because it is time I dedicate to myself, reflecting on my overall well-being, not just my nutrition.
We discuss my sleep, stress, physical activity, game plan for the upcoming week, in addition to my personal mindset and relationship with food, and how she can best support me as my coach.
Through Audy’s coaching, I have lost a total of 15 pounds while continuing to gain strength. More importantly I have gained an understanding of the calories and macros that I personally need to eat to feel and perform my best.
When I first started working with Audy, I honestly thought it was impossible to eat my bodyweight in grams of protein each day. That was a constant struggle for me for a long while. Until I finally did it and I felt satiated, and I knew from real life experience that it was and is attainable.
I know through this experiential learning, and with confidence, that if I continue to log my food daily, build my meals around protein and fresh fruits and veggies, avoid processed foods and minimize my sugar intake, I can and will maintain a healthy weight and live in balance. I am truly grateful for what I have learned from Coach Audy and 406 Barbelle, which is personal knowledge and experience I will carry consistently forward with me to maintain a life of well-being and happiness :)

About a year ago I went to a Sunday evening restorative yoga, seeking to drop my stress level and regain a bit of balance in my life. A few minutes in, as I attempted to get into the simplest of all poses, child's pose. I felt tears streaming down my cheeks.
The three years of increasing stress and long hours at work, the loss of my father, and a career demotion had left me heavier than I'd ever been, in both body and spirit. I struggled to breath, and tried to figure out where to cram my belly rolls, and decided I needed help. I reached out to Audy and turned my training and nutrition over to her. A year later, after diligence and focus, I was down 35 pounds and back into my size 14 jeans.
But it's not just about what I lost, it's more about what I gained. Confidence in work, in training and in life. I gained possession of my body again, and the ability to move with strength and grace. I gained balance in my life and the ability to laugh again. But most importantly, I gained the confidence to know that, when the time is right, I have everything I need to take that next cut, to continue to train (even when it gets hard) and to find play again in my life.

I am a non-scale victory winner for sure. I started working with Audy last May, and slowly we have worked together for this amazing progression. Even though the scale says I have only lost 20 lbs, the numbers show I have lost 10% fat and gained 6% lean. I'm down 4 sizes in my jeans and 2 shirt sizes. I am so much stronger in my body, I move better and my mind is better. Those are things that are hard to measure but make a big difference. I look in the mirror and see a whole new person. I am finding out so much about myself and what I can really do, like power lifting and Oly lifting, OMG who knew!!! My confidence in my everyday life has improved as I have progressed in this journey. I have had people ask if I lost 50 lbs and that makes me laugh, because it just goes to show that numbers are just numbers. I have gained in strength, in confidence and a love for a few new lifting sports.

I was too overwhelmed by the novel I could write about “what have I gained” to actually write anything at all. After some thought (and a vodka soda), I decided the best way to quickly summarize all that I've gained is to just express how I feel. And friends, I FEEL LIKE A FUCKING QUEEN! And I'm not sorry! So I guess along with these soul-crushing thighs, I also gained a figurative crown!! My mind, body, and spirit have been transformed.

I have gained so much since I met Audy! So much confidence and a completely new mindset. My lifting is flying, I’ve learned that I can eat without feeling guilty and to ‘push that floor away’ when I lift.

I have totally gained an appreciation for what I can do. Now that I'm in menopause and knocking on 50's door I just resigned myself to "this is how it is." I was blaming everything on my hormones, which yes, have a part to play, but they don't drive the bus. I DRIVE THE BUS. Once I saw that in action, I'm inspired to try for something I have not yet achieved and about which I have been scared to put on my horizon.
